I have heard a lot of talk about adopting from Haiti since the earthquake. There is a lot of confusion in the general population about international adoptions anyway, so there is GREAT confusion now when the media is showing pictures of so many orphans. People want to help out and are confused about the best way to do so. Thanks Lisa. This is a good synopsis of what I have heard too. And we have to remember(not negating helping haiti)but the media tends to "jack up" the hype. That happened after 9--11-01 while I was in NYC.
ReplyDeleteMy contacts in Haiti are begging American families to help financially the orphanages that are already established.
Interesting fact:
Not all orphanages in haiti are "no family" places. Sisters of Charity(Mother Theresa's group)takes in children who are chronically sick and have parents come and visit each day. They are still called an "orphanage".
